27 Nov Installation of the DCSBD Plasma Device at Fraunhofer Institute in Potsdam The installation of the DCSBD plasma device at the Fraunhofer Institute in Potsdam, Germany, is completed. The decision to reinstall the device was based on the positive outcomes from their earlier research. This collaboration is part of the R2R Net Consortium and was supported by Roplass, a spin-off from Masaryk University. The process was coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dušan Kováčik, PhD. and Stefan Kröpke, with the installation handled by researchers Dr. Jakub Kelar and Roman Přibyl.
15 Oct Alex Destrieux as an invited researcher in Brno The treatment of organic materials for photovoltaics is the research topic of Alex Destrieux. After finishing his PhD in Canada, the French scientist came to Brno to continue his work.

9 Oct Researcher's Night 2024 CEPLANT traditionally joined the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology at this year's Night of Scientists, held on 27 September. This year topic was "Transformation." Around 1,200 visitors came to the premises of MU Faculty of Science even in the bad weather.
12 Sep Physics at the Festival of Science 2024 The Festival of Science 2024 was held at the Brno Exhibition Centre from Friday 6 September to Sunday 8 September 2024. Around 10,000 visitors had the opportunity to see the attractive world of science, technology, and history. CEPLANT joined the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology with the showcase of plasma technology.

14 Aug Experiments on composites materials in Stuttgart Dana Skácelová and Richard Krumpolec were invited to joint experiments in Stuttgart, Germany. The scientists worked on different ways and methods of preparing composite materials used not only in the construction industry. Now the prepared materials are undergoing testing.
8 Aug David Holec and Ganesh Nayak visit Dr. Ganesh Nayak from Aachen, Germany, and Assoc. Prof. David Holec from Leoben, Austria, are visiting the research group Deposition of Thin Films and Nanostructures. Together with the PVDLab computational team, they are working on two projects.
7 Aug Collaboration with Şişecam Science, Technology and Design Center Richard Krumpolec established a new collaboration with Şişecam, one of the largest producer of flat glass in Europe. The scientists tested the potential of plasma surface treatment on bond strength behavior of an adhesively bonded glass-polymer interface directly at Şişecam Science, Technology, and Design Center.
30 Jul Collaboration with Tokyo Metropolitan University Dr. Peter Klein from CEPLANT and the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology traveled to Japan to conduct joint experiments focused on the diagnostics of HiPIMS processes together with Assoc. Prof. Tetsuhide Shimizu and his team at Tokyo Metropolitan University.
18 Jul 26th ESCAMPIG 2024 The 26th ESCAMPIG conference on the physics of ionized gases organized by the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology, CEPLANT center, and the Union of Czech Mathematicians and Physicists was successfully held at the FIT BUT in Božetěchova in Brno. 191 participants from 26 countries from all over the world attended the conference.
15 Jul CEPLANT-UP project launch From 1 July 2024, the project No. CZ.02.01.01/00/23_015/0008177 is being implemented within the CEPLANT large research infrastructure. CEPLANT-UP is co-financed by the European Union from the Programme Johannes Amos Comenius.

17 Jun Joint experiments with french colleague Simon Dap Simon Dap from Toulouse, France, joined the scientists of the Plasma Diagnostics and Modelling research group. Simon Dap is a researcher at the Laboratoire LAPLACE, Université Paul Sabatier, and works on atmospheric pressure discharge physics and optical diagnostics.
21 May Dr. Jakub Kelar as an invited scholar at Laval Université in Quebéc Last year, Jakub Kelar became an invited researcher at Laval Université in Canada. He accepted the invitation of Prof. Gaétan Laroche to join their research. This year, he has gone to Canada again, works on multiple projects, and collaborates with students in teaching.

27 Feb Plasma and crop protection Plasma treatment of seeds offers new possibilities for decontamination and, therefore, seed protection against bacteria and fungi. The research of Assoc. Prof. Pavel Slavíček, Dr. Vlasta Štěpánová and their colleagues investigates the treatment and its functionality. Plasma treatment is suitable for replacing chemical agents that are still used to treat seeds. It can improve germination and suppress unwanted molds, which may affect the seed storability.

7 Feb Canadian scientist Dr. Jacopo Profili visited the DPPT and CEPLANT Centre In the last week of January, Canadian scientist Dr. Jacopo Profili visited the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology and CEPLANT Centre. Initially a chemistry graduate, Profili is now working in Canada on preparing and modifying materials using gas discharges. As part of the INNOLEC project, he lectured on barrier dielectric discharge and its use in producing organosilicon layers.
16 Jan Project on functionalized fiber spectroscopy with HAWK Göttingen is halfway through Scientists from the Plasma Nanotechnologies and Bioapplications research group at the DPPT and CEPLANT center investigate new possibilities for sample analysis using LIBS (Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy). They traveled again to Göttingen, Germany, to further measure LIBS and to discuss plans for future work. The MOBILITY projects rely on reciprocal visits between international partners and their research centers.

Dr. Zlata Kelar Tučeková and her team worked on this technology for two years.

1 Nov 2023 Mateusz Wnukowski studies plasma gas conversion using laser diagnostics Plasma diagnostics using TALIF can lead to a better understating of plasma conversion of fuel gases. Dr. Mateusz Wnukowski from Wroclaw came to CEPLANT and the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology to learn about laser diagnostics in more detail. His research aims to make more effective and environmentally friendly alternatives to the presently used technologies for fuel conversion.

As an invited professor, he works with French colleagues on research on barrier discharges in CO2.

Nb2BC-based layers could offer an attractive combination of mechanical properties: hardness and flexibility.
13 Sep 2023 Festival of Science and Technology 2023 The Festival of Science 2023 was held at the Brno Exhibition Centre from 8 September to 10 September, 2023. Around 10,000 visitors had the opportunity to peek into the attractive world of science, technology, and history. CEPLANT and the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology presented their program to the visitors. The Brno Observatory and Planetarium organized the event with the support of the Statutory City of Brno and the South Moravian Region.
7 Sep 2023 New numerical models for the design of ductile hard layers Dr. Pavel Ondračka is developing new models for simulations of the structure and properties of thin films. Thanks to a MŠMT MSCA project, he went and now collaborates with colleagues at the University of Leoben in Austria. Using his models for the amorphous material tungsten-boron-carbon (W-B-C), it will be possible to predict the mechanical properties of this material, understand its behavior, and find the most suitable composition for hard protective layer applications.
1 Sep 2023 Department of Plasma Physics and Technology – A new name for our hosting institution As of 1 September 2023, our hosting institution, the Department of Physical Electronics, has changed its name. The name of the Department of Physical Electronics needed to be revised. The new name is the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology (abbreviation DPPT), and the Czech equivalent is Ústav fyziky a technologií plazmatu (abbreviation ÚFTP).
23 Aug 2023 Plasma as a tool to improve the quality of UV digital printing Digital printing is now a widely available technology. However, the printed materials' size and variety still present a challenge for printers. Not all glass, polymer and Dibond boards, canvases, etc., are suitable for printing. However, atmospheric plasma treatments can also cope with the adhesion of these different materials for UV digital printing.

1 Aug 2023 New diagnostics device RFEA Since mid-July, our scientists have acquired a new device that extends the current capabilities in process diagnostics of thin film deposition. The RFEA (Retarding Field Energy Analyser) enables the measurement of incident ions with high time resolution, a crucial parameter for thin film deposition using magnetron sputtering.

9 Dec 2021 Commemorative medals for leading personalities of CEPLANT The Dean of the Faculty of Science Tomáš Kašparovský honoured 36 personalities who had made a significant contribution to the development of the Faculty, and its departments and institutes, over the last few decades. A total of eight personalities were awarded in the fields of physics and mathematics, three of whom work in CEPLANT.
