Dr. Peter Klein from CEPLANT and the Deposition of Thin Films and Nanostructures research group and the PVDLab team specializes in HiPIMS diagnostics, a specific method for preparing thin coatings. Last year, Dr. Peter Klein first visited Japan for experiments and his recent stay builds on the results obtained. In the experiments, a QCM (Quartz crystal microbalance) was used to directly determine the flux of the particles forming the deposited coating. You can read more about that trip at this link.

In July 2024, Dr. Peter Klein and Assoc. Prof. Pavel Souček attended Kyoto's ISSP 2024 Sputtering Conference (17th International Symposium on Sputtering & Plasma Processes). After the conference, Dr. Peter Klein traveled to Tokyo Metropolitan University to conduct joint experiments in Assoc. Prof. Tetsuhide Shimizu's lab.

Dr. Peter Klein with Assoc. Prof. Tetsuhide Shimizu and his team measured the ion flux in HiPIMS discharge with a changing magnetic field. They analyzed different conditions where the magnetic field balance and its intensity were changed. In collaboration with the Swedish company Ionautics, represented by Assoc. Prof. Daniel Lundin, also from Linköping University, they studied carbon and aluminum-chromium processes. Dr. Caroline Hain from Swiss EMPA (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology) will now add her TOF MS (Time-Of-Flight Mass Spectrometry) measurements on both studied processes.
