The Festival of Science & Technology 2023 was held at the Brno Exhibition Centre from Friday 8 September to Sunday 10 September 2023. Around 10,000 visitors had the opportunity to sneak a peek into the attractive world of science, technology, and history. CEPLANT and the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology presented their program to the visitors.
Around ten thousand visitors attended the Science & Technology Festival 2023 at the Brno exhibition center. The Brno Observatory and Planetarium organized the event with the support of the Statutory City of Brno and the South Moravian Region. CEPLANT and the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology joined the festival. Together with other MU physics departments, the animators presented stimulating facts from the world of physics to the visitors.
There were demonstrations of gas discharges in different gasses with basic information about spectroscopy. The attendees could watch attractive 3D electron microscope images from our scanning electron microscope Mira3 through bi-color glasses. For the smallest of the attendees, the animators prepared puzzles and the pairs game with the photos from our research of plasma science and technology. Older kids attempted to separate Magdeburg hemispheres, a historical experiment from 1654. The experiment demonstrates the power of low pressure. The most eye-catching and engaging was a demonstration of our plasma source – Gliding Arc. The animators introduced plasma as an ionized gas with hints of its scope of potential applications and provided engaging explanations throughout the festival. Physics is attractive to young and old alike.
We will be attending the event again next year. You can look forward to the next Science Festival from 6 - 8 September 2024.
